Republicans trying to control on women issues!

House of Representatives held a hearing on contraceptive coverage, and all their witnesses were anti-choice men? Go figure! Republicans are going a bit too far in trying to control in issues that affect women. Republican committee chair Issa, doesn't think women have the proper credentials to talk about birth control? How ignorant is that?

I hope women are taking notice and let these idiot legislators know what we think of their actions in November. I have a feeling that this radical pull to the right by Republicans is going to create quite an interesting election year with plenty of fireworks!

Contentious House Hearing Underscores Divides in Contraceptive Coverage Debate

February 17, 2012 — Female Democrats on Thursday walked out of a House committee hearing after Chair Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) refused to add a woman to an all-male panel slated to testify about religious freedom and the federal contraceptive coverage rules, The Hill reports (Baker/Lillis, The Hill, 2/16).
Issa said that the House Oversight and Reform Committee hearing was about freedom of religion, not contraception, and that the Democrats' witness -- a law student -- did not have the proper credentials to testify (Abrams, AP/San Francisco Chronicle, 2/16).

Yea, that whole deal is pretty ridiculous. I agree that voters need to get those jokesters out of office and lets deal with the pertinent issues in DC and leave what happens in the bedroom to the people.

where are the jobs, assholes? if your thing was controlling women, why the hell didn't you run on that?

    scumbags.
I consider myself an FDR democrat and an Eisenhower republican. In today's America that makes me a radical without a party.

I'm not sure about the details surrounding this particular event, but contraception/womens rights have indeed been trumpeted by some as the underlying issue here, but that's really a red herring. It is about religious liberty.

I think the religion angle itself is a red herring - it's about economic liberty: the freedom of contract.

There shouldn't need to be a religious exemption - the federal government has no business dictating the offerings of insurance companies.

For two years the Democrats were in charge and they blocked Republicans from many of the committees. Now the Republicans are majority and they are doing exactly what the Democrats did. Turn about is fair play.

I agree with you there. It's an affront on multiple levels, but the religious angle is likely the strongest argument, as it's clearly a constitutional restriction on the federal government.

No it isn't. Obama changed it so that those who opposed contraceptives based on religious beliefs didn't have to pay for them, the insurance companies are picking up the tab. Opponents are no longer being forced to pay for something they don't believe in. Since that issue has been cleared, what reason do Republicans/conservatives have to insist that religious freedom is being infringed upon? It is more reasonable to believe that Republican politicians are trying to find a way to make Santorum's radical view on contraceptives not sound so utterly insane.

Unfortunately for the idiot Republican politicians, they are keeping "women" out, and many of them happen to be Republican conservatives who don't agree on the stupid notion that contraceptives are bad for the country, and do not go along with their idiotic dictates.
