You know it is really bad when even POLITICO feels forced to criticize a Republican.


Pete Hoekstra (R) is running for Senate in Michigan. The same Pete Hoekstra who failed in his bid for the GOP gubernatorial primaries in 2010. Yes, the same Pete Hoekstra who made false claims about WMDs in Iraq in 2006, for which there was a blowback from the Pentagon. Yes, the same Pete Hoekstra who put up a website about WMDs so detailed that it was feared that people could learn how to build WMDs from it - the site was taken down in November, 2006.

This is the ad he has that will run during the Super-Bowl:



1.) chinese sounding music: check, including the use of a GONG for key words like "now" and "not".
2.) hot asian chick: check
3.) she speaks broken english the way we think an asian would speak "engrish": check
4.) chock full of stereotypes: check
5.) creates yet another image of China as "the enemy": check

But of course, this is not racist. Nosiree!!!

DAMN! but it gets worse...

Not only that, at Hoekstra's "Debbiespenditnow" website, take a look at the chinese characters all over the place, and, of course, the communist RED color:

Do these GOP clowns really think they can win by insulting entire ethnic/racial groups? I mean, do they have a spring loose, or what?

i don't know if the stereotyping offends me as much as the idea that i'm supposed to think "spenditnow" sounds anything like "stabenow."

I see this as more of an insult to the American people of Michigan in that Huckster-Ahh beleives that Americans are so damned stupid that they will belive any type of bullshit put into their faces.

You know when I see the SO CALLED Tea Partiers, the Birthers, the Trancriptors, and the like I worry that shit such as this being spewed out by the Huckstra will be eaten up by the American people of Michigan.

PS When I first saw this my first thought wsa Vietnam but the color of the soli was not red enough and the girls face was too round Vietnamese for the most part have longer faces.

I had a buddy who served at GITMO for 11 years - he knows something about flashbacks. Pretty nasty stuff.

All I want to know is who this woman (in the ad) is, and whether she's into older men.

I used to see stuff like this in Kentucky ten years ago, but theirs was more subtle. Candidates themselves, not the party, have ultimate control over stuff like advertising in state-level races like this one. It's embarrassing, though, for a Senate race in a top-ten state looks like this. Michigan has really suffered from globalization, though, and they've been competing with Asians for almost 40 years, so maybe this resonates. I don't know.
