Hey I understand you think the Temptations rank right up there at the top of Great African Americans in American history and are more worthy than most and should take up valuable teaching time during Black History month.......gotcha.

Because I think the negative use of the word is important to use in context, to illustrate how ugly of a classification it is and how ugly using it in that way can be. People have forgotten how negative the term is through overuse and familiarity. It's one of the last power words left.

I was mocking a group of people. The fact that it wasn't clear to you says a lot.

Hey, I understand that you want to whine about something that allegedly happened 12 years ago, that I can't do anything about, while rejecting any and all possible rational explanation as to why it might have happened. Stay ignorant if you want. No one is stopping you. But, don't get your panties all in a twist just because no one wants to join you on your pity pot.

Seems like you're right. I keep hoping, just once, one of these guys will explain exactly what it is that's so "liberal" that's being taught in our public schools. As far as I can tell, it's sour grapes because evolution is being taught as a theory, but not the bible version of creationism; that schools aren't teaching that racism is a thing of the past ( or that slavery was fun for blacks); that teachers aren't confirming that Obama's a secret fake Christian, Muslim, terrorist, that was born in Kenyan - and he has a fake birth certificate.

    Yep, kooky stuff.

Yes as opposed to you I give African Americans more credit for substantial contributions to history.

Right. I ran whatever school your kids were in? It's my fault you're not satisfied with what your kids were being taught in school. 12 years ago a movie was shown, that you don't agree should have been shown, and I'm suppose to do what exactly? Seriously, what do you want from me here? You brought it up. I've been trying to explain to you why it might have been shown. You don't agree. Fine. What more do you want me to say on the subject?

Combing through decades of research on the subject of student values, researchers Ernest Pascarella and Patrick Terenzini determined in 2005’s How College Affects Students, Volume 2 that the percentage of college students identifying themselves as “liberal” or “far-left” increases by only about 4 percent from freshman to senior year. What’s more, the group of self-identifying conservatives actually increases as well—by well over four percent. While the group of liberals still grows more in absolute terms (since it is larger to begin with), the fact is that both liberals and conservatives see their ranks swell as a byproduct of the college experience. And additional research on political behavior has shown, on both sides the majority of this increase likely results from students who start their college career as moderates and end up “picking a team” at some point between orientation and graduation.

Few conservative students ever become liberals during college, and vice versa. Higher education’s political influence may be less one of liberalization and more one ofpolarization, as centrist students gradually drift to one side of the spectrum or the other.

So let's teach about a Ursula Burns during Black History month instead of a pop-vocal group.

    Go ahead and respond again.
Sorry to jump in the middle of this fascinating conversation, but black musicians certainly have a place in black history month. Music certainly helped blur the lines between the races and contributed substantially to a change in attitude toward blacks in general. As a blues musician, one would think that you would already know that.
As a Democrat, I take solace in the fact that the Republicans have nominated the guy who lost the nomination to the guy who lost the presidency to the guy who is now the President.

Considering the origin of his chosen genre I would tend to agree.

Thank you. Finally, that's exactly what I was asking for.
