it's not unlike what happened when Eric Holder made his comment about prosecuting the "new Black Panther" case, except the same people who said that Holder was a racist for not seeing a case are now apologizing for this mayor making a clearly bigoted comment.

I don't know that he was asked an honest question as much as a loaded question, along the lines of "have you stopped beating your wife?" The question he was asked was not an accusation, but it would be difficult to give a simple answer to it without seeming dodgy. It's a poorly formed question (I would say with intent). But that's just politics and he should be able to roll with it and give the more complex response. His was funny though.

As far as Holder goes, I never accused him of being a racist, and I'm not for anyone here. I don't think there's anything to apologize for. I'm simply sharing my point of view on his comments.
Again, I agree that in light of the situation a more conscientious politician would've certainly been more deft in handling the question, but I'm not willing to declare the man a bigot or a racist, or even concede that the comment was bigoted.
I can understand some sensitivity due to the circumstances, but let's not get carried away.
