In San Francisco, Only Criminals Will Own Guns

San Francisco appears to have passed the toughest anti-gun law in the nation. The law requires law-abiding citizens to turn in to police their legally purchased, and constitutionally-approved handguns by April 1, 2006. So, henceforth, in San Francisco, while the city undoubtedly undergoes years of expensive litigation over wrong-thinking and wrong voting, the rights of ordinary citizens have been trampled. In San Francisco, only the criminals will own guns.
If you ask me, that is just about stupid!!

i agree. guns serve as protection for most people who own them. my grandfather, uncle, and dad all have guns and none have commited crimes aside from traffic violations before. they have killed snakes and deer, and kept the guns locked in closests. it is very fucked up voting out in the "country" of california.

fuck cali, let the stupid "state" break off from the union, and float to never never land

edit: let the people who want none of the local govy's shenanigans leave to nevada, and then blow the state line, so they will float away

IMO kidney sales should be legalized. The way I see it, there are 6 billion extra kidneys floating around, if you increase the supply (by legalization) the price would drastically fall. People who sold their kidney could always buy another if their second failed. Poor people would be better off because they could sell a kidney for money (compensation for risk and recovery) and near death people would benefit in that they would not have to wait on waiting lists for a kidney that would never come.

The rest of California thinks this law is idiotic, and it would never pass anywhere else here. So its rather unfair to judge the whole state by the actions of one city.

And sure, we should break off from the rest of the country, and we'll take the fifth largest economy with us :-)

    Give it time...

This is one of those laws that given time will be repealled, changed or struck down. I can not see in a modern world, a world in which gun collecting, hunting and home defense are involved, be ruled by over-zealous acts like this. The best example to take to heart is prohabition and the government's eventual understanding that there are some thing that are better left regulated then deemed outright illegal.

If anyone has links to any research or reasoning for this law, please post them.

I cant imagine what good that would do, it will only serve to piss people off. And will definantly alienate the Mayor from a large part of the voting population, seems like this guy is just trying to get national media attention rather then be progressive.
