Today began the confirmation hearing for Kagan to become a Supreme Court Justice. According to the Media they are reporting the story like Kagan will be confimed no matter what. Even CNN is questioning why are the Republicans acting like this hearing is a formality. Senator Jeff Sessions is not ruling out a filibuster. Yet other Republicans led by Senator Graham are making statements such .....when she is on the Court.

They damn well better filibuster this and force the Dems to put up or shut up, on this one I am 100% against President Obama's pick. When he was a Senator he backed filibustering Leto. We cannot afford to have this woman on the Supreme court for the next 40 -50 years. This Clinton Croonie has to much political aspiration built into her by that Cowards political teachings.

If you wants links as to why she shouldn't be.....I suggest you start with the Washington Times. Those who call themselves conservative should damn well have their asses on the phones to their Senators. Email, show up in person, whatever means necessary. I myself have already called Sessions Office telling him he had damn well better filibuster this. I told him that he needs to speak to all those other RepubliCons and get them all on the same page and believe me I strssed the issue on the difference. This is ridiculous. Hatch needs to step on this.........all of those SOUTHERN SO CALLED Conservatives need to wake up and quit talking about their friggin base. Moreover these Senators need not talk to Boner (Ohio) and his lackeys on this........

Jeffery Toobin of CNN even stated that Kagan acted like she was out front on this..........all this nice poltical posturing and talking............where the hell are those loud mouth Southern Senators that like to disrespect the man as well as the policy, and then apologize. Well this time they would not have anything to apologize for. As we speak I have even called McCain's office to tell him to get on board with this and to have a little talk with his buddy Graham. This is also History and Kagan should have no part of it. THIS IS RIDICULOUS!!!!!!!!!!!

What is up with this crap that she cannot reveal to much of her views or philosophy. Doesn't that speak volumnes already!!!

Well the way i feel is no matter left or right she should not be on the Supreme Court. Never been a judge that makes her unqualified. I don't go to an engine shop and get the receptionist to rebuild my engine.

I'm not a big proponent of the experience factor for jobs like this. I don't know if sitting on the bench in traffic court makes someone anymore exceptionally qualified than someone who has instead been a practicing lawyer or law professor. If the concern is over the functions and processes of how the court works, the appointment is for life and it shouldn't take more than a month to get up to speed on that stuff. If the concern is not having ruled on a case before, any high level practicing attorney who has tried cases at the Supreme Court level or been a legal scholar has probably spent just as much or more time going over the court's decisions as the justices who made them.

Your analogy about the receptionist and the mechanic is true, but I also wouldn't appoint the mechanic to the appeals court for a year and then say he is better suited for the Supreme Court than a law professor simply because he served time on the bench.

It looks like about 40% or so of everyone who has ever served on the Supreme Court had no judicial experience prior to their appointment. I'm good with that. A good mix is probably best.

There are lots of examples of people lacking conventional experience and still being right for the job or up to the task. Just as there are examples of people with a great deal of experience not being a good fit or being unsuccessful in a given position (including politicians from all sides of the aisle). Bill Gates had no experience running a multi-billion dollar corporation. Presidents Taylor, Taft, Grant, Hoover, and Eisenhower had never held elected office before becoming President. And I'm relatively certain that the founding fathers had no previous experience founding a country or writing a national constitution either.

I think there are some jobs where experience is great and even desirable, but it can still sometimes be trumped or at least equaled by other factors.

We should all re-watch the Bork or Thomas Hearings to see how the left handled these things. Badly.

She should be pressed hard on her legal knowledge. She should be forced to demonstrate she has the knowledge to make complicated judgments.

Political litmus tests should have nothing to do with it. Imaginary character flaws should have nothing to do with it. Obama can nominate the most liberal person and if that person has the ability to make complex, non-ideological judgments, she should be confirmed. If the review shows that she ignores the law to serve her ideology, she should not be confirmed.

    It's all about the law.

It is a good chance to judge the quality of our Senators. Last time I watched one of these things, the Senators came across as a bunch of morons.

You're always pushing the partisan favorites, Boon. But that's okay if you want to hawk Kagan.

I don't care if she's qualified or not, I simply don't want her on the court. I don't subscribe to the "living, breathing" philosophy, and will never support someone who does.

Kagan is not qualified that is fact............but that is far from the problem.......it is the political philosophy and ideaology. When the Media from NBC and MSNBC are literally stating that she needs to watch how much she reveals .............then this exact kind of statement needs a check. This individual or any atttempting to accept a positon on the Supreme Court needs to be grilled aggressively.......when the liberal media is literally stating that the republicans can do nothing and pointing out what are useless arguements are, then the influence is out there and even politicians are affected by the influence of the media. As far as being Marshall's secretary this is different than being Marshall's aide.

Moreover this individual is 100% devoted to the Coward Clinton and his ideaology, his philosophy, and 100% devoted to this piece of crap in loyalty. The time for Clinton Politics is over and it is time to drive them out of Government and the Media. She cannot be sitting on the highest court in the land and be about whatever Clinton says. I have done what I said and as I am just another tiny voice in the great big sea of humanity........but at least I can say ......I was heard!

One thing is certain all of these Judges and appointies are rich or wealthy......they do not need a lifetime Job.........not oneof them are of the working class......none of them have been poor. Any on this Court.........need to have psychological evaluations every 3 years. Senility comes with age not just wisdom. We the People should not have to foot the expense for these pariahs.................Here are some Immortal Words for these or any Judges...............Ye who Judge, WILL BE JUDGED!
