the best way to control the government is to keep a bootheel on the neck of Congress, and the American people have failed to do that, so we get what we deserve.

These are fair questions and before I answer I should define what I mean by "Neo-Con". My interpretation of the various definitions given for Neo-Con is someone who is for big domestic spending, centralized control of political parties and their fund-raising and disbursements, and American hegemony over international issues...not limited to Free-Market means. So, anyone who doesn't actually come out and say that we need to spend far less than we do now, and de-centralize our public operations, and stop trying to force others to trade the way we want them to through trade agreements(and other means), is following that template. I think Neo-Con principles are preached on a daily basis in this country, at least in all of the MSM, including FOX, and on many outlets that are not considered MSM. It would be easier for me to point out examples of people who are not Neo-Cons.

I don't support any political Party, and the only individual I would want as President is Walter Williams....or my neighbor Chuck because he has his shit together, but I don't think he has a shot in hell of winning and he's pretty busy with work and family right now so I don't know if he'd have the time to serve anyway. As far as established individuals go, I'd have to say that Ron Paul is the only one that I tend to agree with but even in his case the disagreements that I have with him, primarily over national security issues, may actually lead me to vote against him, not like that's an issue anyway because he'll never be elected to the White House, his own Party stabbed him in the back last election cycle. Please don't mistake me as someone who has just decided to hate everyone because I'm overwhelmed by the way things are right now, I dislike everyone who even has a remote chance of being a player precisely because I have looked into them, and I am not pleased. I've done my research. In 2008 there were 17 Parties listed on the ballot here for President. The GOP and the Dems are out immediately, I'll never vote for them. The remaining 15 Parties were the biggest bunch of buffoons I've ever seen assembled in one place. Neo-cons are fiscally liberal and socially conservative. I am socially liberal and fiscally conservative. I believe that many Americans think the way I do. None of those Parties reflected my views. I do not believe it is a coincidence that that viewpoint is not represented in our ballots. I refuse to give a vote to someone that I think is a bad candidate.

I disagree that transforming the GOP is the best bet for restraining spending because I don't believe that the GOP will ever want to restrain spending. I think we need to get away from this idea that the only thing wrong with this country is that "it's not the system, it's the people in the system" and finally acknowledge that it is in fact the system, and we need to de-centralize. The GOP has disappointed me enough over the years that I will no longer support them. It's time to dismantle them.

I should probably post something on topic. Elena Kagan may not be someone that I agree with, but as far as the political culture in Washington DC is concerned, she's pretty normal. She's going to get in and that's just the way it is. I'm not even sure that she's a radical as far as DC standards go. Regardless, the best way to control the government is to keep a bootheel on the neck of Congress, and the American people have failed to do that, so we get what we deserve.

Hiya Michigan, well said!!!!!!!!!! I had started a thread on what it is to be Republican, some of wht you state here is dead- on. Many feel that just stating they are Republican is an abstract meaning. Yet there must be a model, a definition, a classification, that which defines. Everyone saying Lincoln and I am conservative does not adequately define what a Republican is..................and the system is Capitalism! My query as to this<<<<<<< Does it work or is it a failed concept from the start?

This is what I think a Republican is. A Republican is a guy who votes Republican thinking that he's getting Ronald Reagan, but gets Ronald McDonald instead. Yeah, the whole premise is fucked from the very beginning.
