    Damn Those Democrat's Regulations!

A Michigan tour bus company was ordered to cease operations after six people were found traveling in one bus' luggage compartment.

Along with the uncomfortable travelers, authorities also found mattresses, pillows and luggage when the bus was pulled over in Ohio on May 27th.

"People's lives were needlessly placed at risk," said U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood in a statement. "Safety is everyone's responsibility and it begins with practicing common sense. That means not putting human beings in cargo holds."

The incident comes after a series of high-profile bus crashes that have killed dozens this year, including one from New York to a Connecticut casino.

In North Carolina, another bus company was ordered to shut down on Saturday because government inspectors said the company hires drivers who don't have the required licenses or aren't medically qualified, WCTI-12 reported.

The company said it plans on hiring new drivers so it can resume operations.

It's getting so you can't even treat people like cargo to make a buck, or use unlicensed drivers, without the Federal government sticking their nose in your business...
There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world.

The other, of course, involves Hobbits and Orcs.

Why is it when the Right criticizes one federal regulation, they are accused of wanting ALL regulations terminated?!?

    Because they do?

Damn the intrusive, anti-business nanny state! That bus company should be allowed to operate any way it sees fit.
Why I'll bet that poor bus company is even forced to carry insurance against it's will!

Because they hardly EVER do criticize just one, or even a group of regulations. They are the ones that are constantly screaming about "anti-business regulation" as if all or any are bad or "wrong". If they don't want their radical rhetoric attacked then maybe they should tone it down a little.
Until they do such posts as the OP are perfectly reasonable.

Some regulations I agree with, like labor and environmental regulations, and regulations in the financial and healthcare industries

Others can probably go, or be relaxed. In a free market atmosphere at least within the United States, we can actually solve a number of our problems if we allow the people to solve it in the market.

    Wise words, Morgan.

Unfortunately, the Democrats never met a regulation they didn't like or were not determined to keep alive at all costs. The same goes for government agencies. Combine that with their pathological desire to spend other people's money and our current economy is the result.

Like almost all such broad generalizations, a load of bullshit.
I should not have to point that out to a even moderately intelligent person.

I agree with the existence of some government agencies, but only what we really need to enforce the laws passed by Congress, or to carry out the various social services that we deem necessary for an efficient and equitable safety net. I think, in the social services field, there's probably a lot we can do to consolidate, and reform so that we get more for the money that we put in, and less money needed overall, but I believe they should exist.

I've never really been satisfied with the Democrats or the Republicans when it comes to smart laws and regulation in the economy. I'll use the energy industry as an example. It seems like Republicans are okay to keep provisions in place that favor petrochemicals rather than allow a free market, and it seems like Democrats only want to ensure provisions that favor alternatives over the others. Why do we need to have favorability of one over the other? We make the necessary environmental regulatory laws, and then let the market decide the rest. One thing we could do that would open up the market on liquid fuels, is to pass a law that requires all new automobiles produced in the United States to be FFVs so they are able to run on gasoline, E100, M100, or any combination thereof. That will eliminate the gasoline monopoly on automobiles, and allow for competition.
