President Obama Announces New Measures... With Perhaps A Little Help From President B

Announcing new international measures Friday against Libyan leader Muammar Qaddafi, President Obama called it "just one more chapter in the change that is unfolding across the Middle East and North Africa." But some of the president's announcement seemed to take a page from a similarly historic announcement by his predecessor -- even though one senior White House official said making any connection is "reading too much into it."

Obama closed Friday's remarks by saying, "I've taken this decision with the confidence that action is necessary, and that we will not be acting alone. Our goal is focused. Our cause is just. And our coalition is strong."

Nearly a decade earlier, when President George W. Bush announced that U.S. forces were launching military strikes in Afghanistan, Bush said: "To all the men and women in our military ... I say this: Your mission is defined. Your objectives are clear. Your goal is just." Bush used similar wording in other remarks at the time.

I'll ask again...do you Liberals support this course of action from Obama?

We have been asked by the Arabs to come & help. Bush kicked down their doors & shot his way in. If you don't see the difference it's because you choose not to.
To answer your question, I will support this action only if it is truly an international one with Arab air forces in there fighting along side western forces & paying for the whole venture. Barring that...I'll withhold my support & will never support our sending troops in! (it's an Arab party...not ours!)

I support it...BECAUSE it is a UN effort, decided upon by the security council. If interference is something deemed necessary, we should have international cooperation in the cause.
"While I am a great believer in the free competitive enterprise system and all that it entails, I am an even stronger believer in the right of our people to live in a clean and pollution-free environment. To this end, it is my belief that when pollution is found, it should be halted at the source, even if this requires stringent government action against important segments of our national economy."

Troll answer because you just HAD to bring Bush into it (even though he has no bearing on the current events).

    You fail.

LOL.....Just because you Republicans try to pretend that GW Bush never existed.......That his middle east disasters didn't happen (& don't continue to effect everything we try to do in that area of the world) doesn't make it reality.
Bush left his disease infected fingerprints all over our foreign policy & we will be paying for his blunders & crimes for years to come!

Are you agreeing with Gunne that our continuing/massive commitment of both military forces & expenditures in Iraq & Afghanistan do not limit President Obama's options in Libya?

I'll have to weigh in on 505's side here, JoJo, Bush does weigh on curent events. Heavily.

Now 505's correct, forging though the hae for Bush, but does make a mistake at the end, his emotions in my opinion getting the better of his argument. Allow me to explain.

The disease infection adjective aside, Bush did leave a wide arching finerprints. Aided by the mere fact that his foreign policies have been mirrored to the f'n tee. Presidents you see can shape foreign policy, they are given the eraser to wash away previous "blunders" or "crimes." But this President hasn't put a fingerprint down yet...has he? He surges in Afghanistan as Bush was doing and he uses the exact same Commander Bush used in Iraq. He cotinues to follow the Bush signed Status of Fporces Agreement for withdrawl of US troops in Iraq. He has continued to detain enemy combatants abroad, he continues to deny them US courts. He has sined an Executive Order to resume Bush initiated military tribunals at Gitmo. He has expanded and continued the Patriot Act. He has continued and used the Surveillance bil inclding access to private phone calls, warantless wiretapping. He is launching predator drones into Pakistan, he's involved in dozens of nations around the world.....

Fairly hard for Bush NOT to have a massive fingerprint, your President never removed it. And while he'll receive praise from this Repubican fo doin so, he'll receive deafening silence from his Left on these matters......the antiwar crowds are passe....the howling about Gitmo is obviously over.......the calls for impeachment...the rhetoric of war monger and murderer, the days of the Majority Leader telling the world any wars are lost....are over. Done with. They were never genuine. They were fake and political. And you should be ashamed of yourselves.

I think Obama ust take credit as CiC for Afganistan, he's focusing there and you could argue that limits us. But I'll argue limit us for what, I mean you could argue the Japanese nuclear disaster 'limits' us, it does take from our resources. And the Libya involvement....seems about more air and naval support, Iraq might be less a 'limiting' factor.

    LOL!! Too funny, dude.
