Is the Tea Party Hurting the GOP? Pulse Opinion Research for FOX News Says "Yes"

    http://www.foxnews.com/projects/pdf/DE_Topline.pdf

Suppose the Republicans had nominated Mike Castle. If the election were
held today would you vote for Republican Mike Castle or Democrat Chris Coons?
    9/18/10
    Mike Castle(R) -48%
    Chris Coons(D) -33%
    Some other candidate -9%
    Not sure -10%

    Compared to:
1* If the 2010 election for United States Senate were held today would you vote for Republican Christine O’Donnell or Democrat Chris Coons?
    9/18/10
    Christine O’Donnell(R) -39%
    Chris Coons(D) -54%
    Some other candidate -2%
    Not sure 5%

    *****

I don't put a lot of faith in polls in general, but when the margins are this wide, it's definitely telling.
As a Democrat, I take solace in the fact that the Republicans have nominated the guy who lost the nomination to the guy who lost the presidency to the guy who is now the President.

Christine O'Donnell will save us from condoms, teenage sex, and our own hands. This is what we elect senators to do.
Even when alternative views are clearly wrong, being exposed to them still expands our creative potential. In a way, the power of dissent is the power of surprise. After hearing someone shout out an errant answer, we work to understand it, which causes us to reassess our initial assumptions and try out new perspectives. “Authentic dissent can be difficult, but it’s always invigorating,” Nemeth says.

You can't govern if you don't win. Karl Rove knows that. Apparently the Tea Party folks do not.

Thank god the GOP is inept enough to snatch defeat from the jaws of a sure victory in the Midterms!

Holding up misspelled sign and stomping your feet is so much easier and more fun than governing. Selective attention gives the TEA party folks the impression that they are the majority, mostly because their echo chamber allows them to hear only their own voices.

Agreed. If the tea party people are genuine fiscal conservatives (but not social conservatives) why not just join the Libertarian party? Isn't that what they're all about?

Don't bet against the Repubs yet. The Tea Crackers have given the Repubs energy and excitement. Hey it's hard to fight those costumes....and tea hats..

I think the new "Silent Majority".....intelligent/moderate American voters..... will continue kicking GOP butt out of power this November.

My problem isn't with Republicans - either GOP supporters or GOP politicians. My problem is with the Tea Party. By not electing "electable" politicians from the GOP they're actually handing the Dems more power.

    That's not a good thing.

Gotcha !!! So you do not see the Tea Pees as possibly baggging the GOP !! Except for The Masterbater in Delaware and maybe the What's His Name in Alaska the Tea Pees could help the GOPPER groupers a lot.
