Walgreens: no new Medicaid patients as of April 16

Effective April 16, Walgreens drugstores across the state won't take any new Medicaid patients, saying that filling their prescriptions is a money-losing proposition — the latest development in an ongoing dispute over Medicaid reimbursement.
The company, which operates 121 stores in the state, will continue filling Medicaid prescriptions for current patients.

This is a big hit to those that rely on these drugs for their health. This will also given other providers and in at the costumers.

It is hard to see that they will actually stop taking them as they do not want to lose whatever profit margin there would be.

I wonder if the Government is paying the bills timely enough?

Nothing new here. Most doctors do not accept Medicaid because it doesn't cover their costs. One doctor I knew well wouldn't even go to the bother of filing medicaid claims. Just wrote it off.

More pharmacies will follow suit. Nobody is in business to lose money. Welcome to Obama's Amerika!

Medicaid is medical welfare like cash welfare. Medicare is an insurance plan devised in the 1960s under LBJ funded by Medicare taxes paid like our SSA taxes. It has far outrun its original estimates and is unsustainable.

Medicaid is a shared responsibility of the federal and state governments. This is one reason that about 37 states in in the act of preparing lawsuits to abandon Medicaid and void Obamacare as being unconstitutional. This is what the big flap was all about regarding the "Cornhusker Harvest" where Nebraska was going to be off the hook for paying their Medicaid portion.

The problem will hit all of you. These people will go to emergency rooms and health care centers and overload the system with colds and such to get meds. So the next time someone who needs treatment in the emergency can sit and wit while the hospital fills prescriptions. Welcome to the world of the poor.
