Tom Delay gets three years for his activities in subverting the democratic process

This is a slap on the wrist compared to the time he could have been sentenced. Why is it pigs like this can commit crimes against democracy itself and come off smelling like a fucking rose. He should be considered an enemy of the people. Judge: Tom DeLay to serve 3 years in prison - CNN.com

My fear was that he would get nothing more than probation--which is useless since his political career is so obviously over. The good side of this is that he's going to do some real prison time, and that sets a precedent for how future cases may be handled. But there are approximately 500 current Congressmen and Senators who need to face similar charges. Are any prosecutors dedicated enough to go after them?

Three years in a Texas prison isn't as nice as smelling like a rose. He's now a convicted felon along with the 10 years of probation/community service he'll be serving. One slip up and he's back in the slammer. It may be lighter than he deserves, but it is not a light sentence.

I completely agree, this is not nothing. Even if he does time in minimum security, its still significant, even with early release.

    It's not prison unless he's gang-raped.

Let's not kid ourselves this is an unrepentant criminal who has worked to subvert the democratic process.

In a society that prides itself on being 'democratic' and holds self government to be an inalienable right interfering with the will of the people is a crime against the state.

It's time to ask ourselves what special interests he favored over the peoples interests. Should those special interests also be considered criminals because of their part to defraud the people?

Crimes against the people like this are as much a crime against the state. Crimes like this are an acknowledgment of allegiance to something separate or beyond the state. Crimes like this nullify the people.

I question if the designation 'citizen' is appropriate for a resident whose political authority has been nullified by a person like Tom Delay who personifies an independent process.

What he did could be considered traitorous. He was elected to serve the people of his district and this country. He abused his powers as a servant to this country. Traitorous.

This isn't about prison reform. Its about cold hard facts of life behind bars.

Delay needs to serve real time, not in a cushy country club. Have him be one of his old constituent's girlfriend. I'm sure there are couple of guys named Bubba who used to be in his district that are behind bars.
