The Irish government has formally announced that they're prepared to hold another referendum, but first want legally binding assurances that ratifying the treaty will not affect Irish neutrality, abortion laws or taxation - and possibly also that they'd keep a permanent commissioner. The first three are simple enough, but I can't see all member-states agreeing about the commissioner.
Either way, I reckon there's a good chance of winning a second referendum with just the first three assurances (depending on the political climate in Ireland next October). If they do succeed in getting a 'Yes' vote, then the only obstacle to Lisbon will be
these wastes of human flesh. Looks like it might eventually make it after all. I'm uncertain whether this is good or bad news.
