MSNBC Retracts False Palin Story; Others Duped

So how much of this kind of "Journalism" did we get in the last election cycle?

MSNBC was the victim of a hoax when it reported that an adviser to John McCain had identified himself as the source of an embarrassing story about former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, the network said Wednesday.

David Shuster, an anchor for the cable news network, said on air Monday that Martin Eisenstadt, a McCain policy adviser, had come forth and identified himself as the source of a FOX News Channel story saying Palin had mistakenly believed Africa was a country instead of a continent.
Eisenstadt identifies himself on a blog as a senior fellow at the Harding Institute for Freedom and Democracy. Yet neither he nor the institute exist; each is part of a hoax dreamed up by a filmmaker named Eitan Gorlin and his partner, Dan Mirvish, the New York Times reported Wednesday.

"The story was not properly vetted and should not have made air," said Jeremy Gaines, network spokesman. "We recognized the error almost immediately and ran a correction on air within minutes."

    Retractions are indeed rare!

Let this be proof for anti Palin folks that nothing bad we hear about her in the media is true. Sarah Palin is good enough, and she's smart enough...and gosh darn it! People like her!

If Social Conservatives keep hacking away at the long list of Palin's embarressing gaffes one by one, they might go from deal breakers to no big deal by the time she appoints herself to the Senate.

She's apparently not quite as stupid as most people believe that she is.

Remember, according to Caribou Barbie dinosaurs and humans coexisted 6000 years ago.

No, it was proven to be true instead. Palin found a lawyer and an eye wittness.

Guess what? I still don't think she knew Africa was a continent. She can't even compose a verbal sentence...

Here’s Palin defending herself on the contention that she got confused about Africa: “My concern has been the atrocities there in Darfur and the relevance to me with that issue as we spoke about Africa and some of the countries there that were kind of the people succumbing to the dictators and the corruption of some collapsed governments on the continent, the relevance was Alaska’s investment in Darfur with some of our permanent fund dollars.”

And, she concluded, “never, ever did I talk about, well, gee, is it a country or a continent, I just don’t know about this issue.”
She HAS to be the stupidest sounding politician I've heard in a long time.

    Interesting.

It does not look like the story has been debunked, but it looks like MSNBC was incorrect in the source of the story.

I heard this one on a local radio show, so it's confirmed. Chris Matthews apparently doesn't know either.

Chris Matthews Calls Africa a 'Country'

The test for Palin will be whether she can get Republicans elected as she campaigns for them over the next 4 years.

If professor Obama can govern, it won't matter. Then again, who knows? I certainly don't. Nobody does.

The story I heard was that she was being prepped on international issues by her debate team. She was correctly providing details about each of the countries in Africa. It was the end of a long day and she had a slip of the tounge (sort of like that brilliant journalist, Chris Matthews). She did not, however, imagine FDR on television in 1929.

The essential lie was that it was a McCain staffer who reported the slip.
