78-year-old man in hit and run – passers-by do not help

What is wrong with people? Why did people just pass by and not help?

    First part of the article:
A 78-year-old man is tossed like a rag doll by a hit-and-run driver and lies motionless on a busy city street as car after car goes by. Pedestrians gawk but do nothing. One driver stops briefly but then pulls back into traffic. A man on a scooter slowly circles the victim before zipping away.
The chilling scene — captured on video by a streetlight surveillance camera — has touched off a round of soul-searching in Hartford, with the capital city's biggest newspaper blaring "SO INHUMANE" on the front page and the police chief lamenting: "We no longer have a moral compass."
"We have no regard for each other," said Chief Daryl Roberts, who released the video this week in hopes of making an arrest in the daylight accident last Friday that left Angel Arce Torres in critical condition.

It is a sign of the times, we have lost all humanity. Anyone remember when a woman died in a grocery store, the only one to stop robbed her.

Could be; although the video evidence of them not helping could also precipitate a lawsuit against them.

Wow...just wow...this is very sad. People have no compassion or empathy for anything or anyone anymore. How do you consciously walk away from a situation such as this is beyond comprehension for me. It is truly pathetic!

Standards, morality, compassion, neighbor helping neighbor... thats all that
Conservative Christian stagnated culture garbage. People are progressive
now, self fulfilled, self actualized, raised without moral boundaries.

Everything is OK, and nothing is your responsibility. The government will
    take care of it.

    Welcome to the "ME" generation.

I saw the video of it on MSN.. It was horrible. that poor old fella tossed in the air like a ragdoll.. while the 2 that crossed the double yellow to speed past a van just took off and turned the next corner. People just stood around like friggen idgits.. "duh which way did he go george ?!"

I saw this happen before.. my neighbors daughter (12 at the time) went to cross the road in front our homes.. BOOM.. blazer popped the hill and hit her. At least the woman stopped. I took off running to the girl.. it was gross. A few stopped and most just stood there dumfounded. I used to run with firestations so at least I was able to talk to emt ect.. she survived.. a broken hip and a broken leg..cuts ect.. ya know the kicker of it all though ?! Her parents nor her every so much as said thank you to me..
to this day they have never spoken a word.

    People can be freaks.

My neighbors toddler came inches from being hit the same way. Guess who
it was... the busy body old lady up the street who looks down her nose at
everyone--but thinks its OK for HER to sail down the street as fast as she
wants and blow all the stop signs.

Ive just gotten sick of some people. I live right by the stop sign, when
people drive through it I yell at them- it surprises a lot of people. Needles
to say people think I'm nuts, but you know what- fuck'em.
