Still No Recourse For Katrina Victims

The people of NO are being screwed again. While they still have no recourse and their lives are still in shambles, word comes that once again, no on is going to stand up for them. But hey, at least they got the football stadium redone in time for the season. :sarcasm:

Hmm, if that ain't proof that the government can't handle large construction projects, I don't know what is.

And yet we managed to rebuild Innisfail and it was a lot further from centre of supply. Admittedly fewer houses were affected because Innisfail is essentially a town but take a look at the map - it is half - way up the Queensland )the pointy bit of Australia) where the capital of Queensland and the seat of Government is down in the SE corner. We had to ship up generators, tradespeople, and supplies to the town before we could even start and THEN it !@#@ did not stop raining in North Queensland for nearly 6 months.

Government CAN do this if there is enough pressure put on them - you need to keep up that pressure

    Get Oprah down there!

I was talking about the Corps upkeep of the Levies. I would rather see a corporation in charge of such an endeavor. Say what you want, I will always trust corprorations over politicians....not in honesty, but thier motivation to make a buck.

IN response to the ABC article: First of all, the trial lawyers are just doing what the typically do in 'disaster' situations. Trying to catch every dollar they can. These lawsuits are no way to gage how the 'poor people of NO' are or how they have been. I am close to ground zero down here and I can tell you that most of the population of NO has not stood up and helped themselves much. They've had their hands out from day 1. Listening to the national media on this issue will not give you a clear picture of the realities. They will have you believe that everything is the Feds fault. This is because Bush is at President. Its that simple.

Well, the people have thier hand out to the government for medical care, thier mortgage bills and cheap gas, might as well ask for everything else.

The more you want our government to ack like our daddy, the more they WILL act like our daddy.

People are forced to pay taxes in this country. So at a time of need, why shouldn't they have their hands out? The US gives money to almost any other peoples from other countries that have their hands out. So why not take care of its own citizens the same way or even better?

the Katrina victims got more hand outs than any other natural disaster in history. and they want more? hmmmm. how about... no. enough is enough. stop being a leech and dependent of the government. the time spent complaining could have been better used to build and improve.
