    Change is in the wind...

I try to find all sides of an issue, although I will change the channel away from ridiculous self promotion (i.e., Ann Coulter).

Over the last few weeks a change has begun to happen. The tone is switching on all sides from dealing with this current administration in real time to dealing with the mess they are leaving behind - the difference in the discussions are to what degree the tone is changing. The far left wants to impeach Bush and Cheney, the center wants us to deal with issues of primary concern like how to end the war, improve health care and shore up the country’s security, and the far right is scrambling to find an issue which will not completely ruin their chances of retaining some power. And the really far right wants to stay the course out of survival (the neo-cons are showing their cowardice).

Our Commander-in-Chief refuses to acknowledge the troubles he has caused, never considers the consequences of his actions, and never admits his responsibility for anything. And if he does admit any wrongs, they were the result of other’s actions that he had to respond to. Yesterday during a speech he continually commented that the congress was trying to lose the war and that we must give the surge time to work, totally shifting the defeat to those that want to leave, not to those that started the whole fiasco. He also commented on all the jobs he created, failing to note that the economy (and jobs) of which he was speaking was finance with 3.5 trillion dollars of borrowed money.

He needs to realize that the country is moving away from him and he can choose to take action to change this direction and once again become viable, or he can continue to act in a selfish manner. If he does not change course, it is going to get uglier than it is now.

I would like to see the President step up to the plate, acknowledge his mistakes, and start correcting the direction of the country. He should allow any and all of his aides to testify before congress. He should introduce legislation that opens an investigation into war profiteering. He needs to show the willingness to do what is right for the country before we go much further. That would start a much-needed cleansing without the disruption of government that will occur if impeachment begins.

Re: Change is in the wind...

I agree with a lot of what you write here, but I take exception to your characterization of the left. Those of us who want to impeach Bush and Cheney do have very good reasons for our position. You see, starting with the Nixon administration, the neocons have been trying to wrest more and more power for the Executive branch, against our Founders intentions. We allowed Nixon to walk away. Yes, he was forced to resign in disgrace and some members of his administration did prison time, but Nixon was pardoned and everyone thought that was the best thing in order to heal the country. Well, a lot of the people behind all of those illegal acts came back with the Reagan administration and we had things like Iran-Contra, which Reagan had full knowledge of. Once again he got away with it. Along comes the Bush administration and many of the same people who believe in the unitary executive are back and have managed to claim even more power for the president. Until we show these people that we will not tolerate them and until they are punished to the fullest extent of the law, they will continue to rear their ugly heads and gain more and more power each time. The more power they have the less We the People have.

So you see, it is not simply a hatred of Bush that motivates us as far as impeachment goes. It is necessary in order for the people to gain back the power that our Founders intended us to have.

I've come here for some real debate, especially with conservatives. Would you like to debate? Or do you just like being snarky and smartassed?

Good point. Bush will NEVER admit to a mistake and change course.

Yes, maybe if he/she/it sought out other posts where debate is going on currently...he/she/it could get involved.
