So India is claiming to have found water molecules on the moon, and the article makes mention of India and China's 21st century space-race to the moon.

    http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/new...cle6846639.ece

The article talks about how they next hope to smash a somehting into the moon for further research.

All of which, and here we go again, raise that same little thought in my brain: How is it that 21st century scientists, using 21st century technology, are wetting themselves over landing little rovers on the moon, dreaming of smashing unmanned objects into it.... but 50 years ago we were able to put people on it and bring them back unscathed.

I can't think of any other 60's technology that so eludes modern science.

When Europe put a camera on the moon they were celebrating the decade long effort with champagne and high fives. It just strikes me as odd that there's no other area, other than porn, that Europe is so hopelessly 3 generations out of date in.

And yet none of these people talk about the moon landings as fake. Nobody in Russia or Japan or China is calling bullshit on Apollo.

I just can't reconcile this gap in my head. Why can't anybody do in 2009 what was successfully done in one try in 1960 something. For God's sake, every single thing I'm looking at in this office right now was inconceivable to 1960's minds. But they sure aced us in this one particular area of moon exploration.

"Eludes?" Are you suggesting that modern science is attempting to put people on the moon again? We haven't landed people on the moon since the early 1970s because we haven't had the need to do so. Read up on the history of robotics. You'll see that in the mid/late 1970s, we made great strides in robotic technology, making manned lunar missions unnecessary. Why spend extra billions on life support, food, air, rooms, etc., (not to mention the return trip) when a robot can do it for a fraction the cost?

Japan has openly stated it wants to do it by 2025. So has China - they estimate 2015.

But China, which leapt ahead of Japan by putting astronauts into orbit in 2005, also has announced it has set its sights on a moon landing. Japan has yet to launch a manned flight of its own, although the country has floated plans to land a man on the moon by 2025.

    Associated Press, posted on MSNBC

Japan has built life-like robots that wash dishes and perform fan dances. They are arguably the most technologically advanced nation on the planet. They are actively trying to put men on the moon and their best efforts put them 14 years away. They can't even get a manned flight - even the 6-'s Russians kick 21st century ass.

They had to scrap a decade long attempt to land some little probes on the moon because by the time they got the probes done the rockets didn't work.

And yet... in the 60's it was easy as pie.

a lot of it was the whole race to the moon thing... beat the russians, beat the russians. The entire country was pretty inspired and behind it.

The country was rabid about it. I saw a news clip form the period, right after the Ruskies put a man in orbit, where this perfectly normal new Yorker (in suit and fedora of course) saw saying to the interviewer "well when I was in the army if I fell asleep on watch I would have been shot. And somebody here has fallen asleep on watch. It's humiliating. It's humiliating. And the people who let this happen should be punished.

How a foreign country launching a space craft is something his government 'let happen' is beyond me - but it made sense in his mind at the time.

So take this attitude and now we've got motive as well.

If the Japanese want to put men on the moon, why don't they use the 1960's technology? It worked.

Maybe the US won't allow it. Maybe there's an understanding that if you put a man on the moon, we'll boycott your country and cease all foreign aid.

Or it could be that the moon landings were fake.

Actually Blue, funny you should say that because some Japanese believe it.

I lived there for a couple years and I heard maybe three people mention it to me. Their space program has been plagued with problems Everything they launch explodes or fizzles on the pad.

Now I put that down to the fact that they are totally over-ambitious with their program. They want to match the Chinese and NASA by themselves, which I think is impossible - i think their moon landing is nothing more than patriotism and wishful thinking... but the people who mentioned it to me did it with a "The CIA is keeping us off the moon so no one will know they faked the landing" wink and glimmer in their eye.

It's an idea that has a following there is what I'm saying.

So they still use that golden foil looking stuff? I think they need more gold foil looking stuff. You can go to Mars with that.

Yeah - the greatest evidence of a moon landing hoax is right here.
