"Welcome Home"
That was, maybe still is, a greeting when a Vietnam vet met up with another VV.
Now I guess it depends on where a vet lives as to whether they'll hear those words.

Re: "Welcome Home"
Sounds like an airport issue to me.
Heck, I feel "spat upon" by most airports.

Suck me, Ponzi.

But it's like reactionaries won't be happy until someone spits on a soldier. They<--hint, hint WANT soldiers to be ridiculed so they can say "I told you so."

When was the last time you were told to "wait in the extra baggage area"?

Re: "Welcome Home"
Oakland is far from the most liberal town in the country. Additionally, I don't think that anyone is going to allow protesters at an airport with the added security.

Re: "Welcome Home"
"But don’t ever accuse the anti-war idiots of not supporting the troops."
So people who are anti-war are all idiots who spit on troops? This is still a common belief somewhere?

There is some truth to this, although it's usually from staunch party loyalists who want to uphold their party's agenda. The same can be said about the other side of the game, where party loyalists want the United States to fail in Iraq and a high casualty rate so they can make their partisan point.
The Iraq war is indeed wrong, and the United States never should have rallied behind the kneejerk reaction of the Bush White House. However, the sickness runs on both sides, and the fact that some partisans will stoop to the level of wanting death so they can be "right" is a good indicator of how insane and inept the political atmosphere is in Washington.

Re: "Welcome Home"
I like what one of the GIs said. "San Francisco might stand behid free speech, we stand in front of it, & that's the difference in them & us". I can't remember the GIs name, but he was speaking to SFs latest anti-military "trick", not allowing the US Marines to film a Marine ad there.

Nor is there a recruiting office in San Francisco, but these people were in Oakland, a world away.
